  • A Christmas Bauble Adventure

by Year 3 and Year 4

Lily and Chloe, who were two best friends, were rapidly running home from swimming club. Surprisingly, it finished early at 8 o’clock. They were running down and ancient, crooked path and it was too dark to see even a metre away. Down by the ancient, broken house, Lily noticed a colossal, bright, green light. She shouted to Chloe “Look at that Chloe!” Chloe turned immediately. “Wow! What is it?” Chloe exclaimed. For the next ten minutes, all was silent. Suddenly, they heard an ear-piercing, banging drum sound. A few seconds later, they found themselves scrambling through a bush then they discovered that it was a massive Christmas bauble. Chloe thought it was a decoration since it wa...

  • A Halloween Surprise

    by Noah

One fine day on Halloween a rather strange person came out of Mum and Dads’ room. They didn’t know what it was or who it was. They were intrigued, so they followed them. Once the person was out of sight they began investigating the room. They found nothing out of the ordinary besides a small piece of paper on the floor. It was a photograph of their Dad and Mum but Dad’s body was ripped out of the photo. They found the other piece and in the photo everyone was wearing Halloween costumes. They found a secret door in the house, hidden for years behind a bookshelf. They stopped and heard maniacal laughing. They didn’t think of opening the door because the laughing sounded so scary. The ...

  • A New Beginning

    by Anon

It was a harsh venture into the world. Something was wrong and from the safety of my mummy’s tummy I was plucked! Then with my eyes unable to bear the bright light I kept them tightly closed. They put needles in my feet which hurt and bruised but I knew they must know why and that my mother and the nurses were trying to help - I just could not understand this new world. I longed for her comfort, yet she too was in much pain, but my Dad and she comforted me. I had to wear eye pads and lie under a bright light which I learned later was to help me not become jaundiced - I do not know what that means. I was uncomfortable and confused. I longed to meet again my new brother who was so ...

  • A Poem For April

    by Percy Bysshe Shelley

This is an extract from the much longer work "The Sensitive Plant"   And Spring arose on the garden fair, Like the Spirit of Love felt everywhere; And each flower and herb on Earth’s dark breast rose from the dreams of its wintry rest

  • A Poem For November

    by Robert Hood

No sun – no moon!   No morn – no noon – No dawn – no dusk – no proper time of day. No warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease, No comfortable feel in any member – No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees, No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds! November!

  • A PRINCESS TODLER STORY

    by Anon

Im a Princess, but a todler, I like to run around and play with toys, however, im not like the others, they all follow the rules, be polite, and they always play with my hair all the time which is annoying. My oldest sister is Megan, she is 17, she never leaves the house without her fan. My next eldest sister is Maria, she feels like she is the most famous of us all, she is 14, then comes the prince, he always uses his manners and never leaves the house without his pet hamster! Now we have Georgie, she is super kind, she would always help someone out, the only thing annoying about her is that she invites her friends round to play with me, she is 9. Now we have me, 3 years old, the most c...

  • A Second Christmas ?

    by Bish Bash 123

You might at first think that the idea of celebrating Christmas twice is crazy, though the more thought I give it, the more I can see its many merits. We are all so busy that twelve months can flash by in the blink of an eye and this is one reason why each six months is a necessity. Imagine the delight painted on a child's face when they hear the announcement that there was going to be another Christmas! This could raise concerns about Santa's workload. However we could employ an army of helpers, just think of all the work it should create for the unemployed. Increased spending on gifts can only be good for the economy as retail profits soar- from my point of view this is a "win-win" s...

  • A spy in the camp for Litrasaurus!

    by Carlotta

It had been one of those beautiful summer days and Fancy was flying the children back to Litrasaurus cave she was tired but they had all had so much fun. She had taken them on one of her flights of fancy to a wonderful distant age that they had wished to visit – more of that adventure in another story.  On her journey back flying high over the land of Perpetua she noticed something strange, it looked like a child asleep but it was getting dark and she could not make it out clearly, she did not mention it to the children but flew as fast as she could to safely return them, it worried her as she knew that the dark woodland was not somewhere safe for lone children as many mysterious creature...

  • An Adventure in Venice

    by ChrissiHJ

This was a trip to treasure and has been recorded as one of the most interesting and entertaining birthday ‘treats’ ever. So by way of introduction, we two intrepid aviators set off in our long-winged bird of paradise, a Grob 109B to be precise – and for those aficionados not familiar with this elegant mode of flying apparatus, this is a motor glider built lovingly in Germany some 30 years ago, with an impressive glide angle of 1:28, an average cruising speed of 100 knots and a range of 8 hours – which means we can travel a fair distance. To arrive in the beautiful historically wealthy city of Venice, with its plethora of sighing bridges over waters rippled by singing, gesturing gondol...

  • An Old Seaman's Song

    by Anon

Life is a river and man is the boat That over its surface is destined to float And joy is the cargo so easily stored That he is a fool that takes trouble on board We all have our taste of the ups and the downs As fortune dispenses her smiles and her frowns O, may we not hope of its frowning today That tomorrow she'll lend us the light of her ray I would not that man without caution should steer Through the quick-sands , the rocks that encircle us here Be honour his compass, the magnet his breast Let him stand to truth's cause to fate leave the rest There is plenty of sunshine, then why choose the shade? Half of the trouble that comes o'er us our own fears have made Then go...

  • An Unexpected Visitor

    by Daniel

Every afternoon, James liked to visit Litrasaurus in his cave to read with him. Litrasaurus was a wise old dinosaur who had many wonderful stories to tell. On this particular afternoon, James was entering the cave as he always did, but something seemed out of place. There was a young dinosaur walking around the entrance. This little dinosaur looked familiar, but James couldn’t quite put his finger on why. The dinosaur looked confused. “Hello”, said James, “is everything ok?” “I’m lost”, he said. “Don’t worry, you’re safe in here” said James, “- what’s your name?” “I can’t – I can’t remember … ” said the dinosaur, “and I can’t remember how I got here, either”. James knew som...

  • April & May

    by HollyPJ

The firstborn arrived towards the end of the night on the thirtieth of April, and was named after the month of her birth, while her younger sister arriving soon after was likewise named May. They were very close, but very distinct from one another: April was very good at noticing things that other people missed, the tiny but important details. She had a great memory and was excellent at solving puzzles and riddles. May was the performer of the pair, good at jokes and impressions, always making people laugh. Often when people who did not know the twins met them for the first time, they mistook May to be the eldest, as she was usually the first to speak and very outgoing. But it was April w...

  • Bed In Summer

    by Robert Louis Stephenson

In winter I get up at night And dress by yellow candle-light. In summer, quite the other way, I have to go to bed by day. I have to go to bed and see The birds still hopping on the tree, Or hear the grown-up people's feet Still going past me in the street. And does it not seem hard to you, When all the sky is clear and blue, And I should like so much to play, To have to go to bed by day?

  • Bedtime

    by Cindi Walton

It was an hour before bedtime and all through my room  My toys were all scattered and sensing their doom To the toy box they went and the blocks to their bin One broken mermaid who was missing her fin The books on the shelf and dolls in their crib One minus her shoe, the other her bib Puzzle pieces picked up and returned to their box My ducks in a row as I looked at the clock Five minutes to spare,” now what should I do?” No time for crafts or gluing with glue My door flew wide open and Papa walked in Smiling and winking he said with a grin “Five minutes to spare come give me a hug!” And he squeezed me real tight and we fell to the rug He tickled, I laughed and we giggled so...

  • Birthday Celebration

    by Bish Bash 123

Once each year for my birthday celebration, I conjure up a taste sensation, A cake with tubs of frothy cream, That is the confection of my dream. After a while I decided to bake, A deliciously succulent red velvet cake, From the oven a heaven aroma drifts, My taste buds tingle and my heart lifts. The divine cake looked all golden brown, And I smothered on an icing crown, As I showered sprinkle here and there, I iced my name with special care. The sponge of the cake looked moist and luscious, The cake stood creamy and exquisite and luxurious The sponge so sweet and enticing, Then looks royal with its mantle of icing. I scatter the many colour...

  • Boo

    by James

Once upon a time there lived a panda called Boo. Boo didn't like the city. In fact he didn't like to be anywhere near cities. Boo had a very big tummy which he used to play-fight with the squirrels nearby. They were always careful when they play-fought even though sometimes Boo thought that was too boring. One day the squirrels tried to tell Boo to stop play-fighting and so that is when they saw the biggest tree in the forest and it looked like a ready-made home. They all stared at the tree because it was so beautiful and original. They all wanted to live there and so there was a race to see who would get to the tree first. They drew. One of the squirrels abruptly had an idea. The i...

  • Daffodils

    by William Wordsworth

I wandered lonely as a Cloud That floats on high o'er vales and Hills, hen all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden Daffodils; Beside the Lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.   Continuous as the stars that shine And twinkle on the milky way, They stretched in never-ending line Along the margin of a bay: Ten thousand saw I at a glance, Tossing their heads in sprightly dance. The waves beside them danced; but they Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:- A Poet could not but be gay In such a jocund company: I gazed---and gazed---but little thought What wealth the show to me had brought: For oft when on my couch I lie In vacant...

  • Dear Wolf

    by Bish Bash 123

Dear Wolf, You ought to be ashamed of yourself and your disgraceful behaviour. You are nothing but a big bad bully! Your mother would be ashamed of you! We little pigs are just trying to find a cosy home to live in and you cruelly placed obstacles along every inch of our path. As one of God's fine creatures yourself, you should know better! There are many crimes of which you are guilty: damaging public property, farmyard robbing and domination of those most vulnerable. How would you like it if a big bad pig waddled to your house one day and destroyed it? Many people have been terrified by you. Can we just point out that you have destroyed two of our little friends, the boy who cried...

  • Didi and the Androids

    by DeanCrawford

Nobody knew how the Androids worked, not even Professor Sci-Fi. Ever since the foreign leader Extinctus had arrived from a strange and far-away land, the Androids had stalked Perpetua in search of books to burn. The Androids never spoke. They never harmed anybody. But they seized books from every home they encountered and then marched them far away to the tower where Extinctus lived. There the books were burned in great fires visible for miles each night. The fires were even visible from the sea where Didi Dolphin lived, glittering like stars that had fallen from the heavens to settle on the distant coast. But now Didi had a mission, one that could change everything. Professor Sc...
