Emily & the Busterplunks
The Busterplunk clan were not the sort of people you would want as neighbours. They lived a somewhat noisy and chaotic existence: Their rubbish lay strewn around outside their homes, foul-smelling and slowly rotting for weeks at a time. Their parties would frequently stretch late into the night, with cackling and howls echoing into the air as far as a mile away. Their clothes were often dirty and creased, and they took little care over personal hygiene. More than all this: They were rude and mean, and would never leave a waitress with a smile - let alone a tip. Also, they were witches (Did I mention that part?) They lived up on the moors among the purple heather, under a powerful char...

First Day At School
To celebrate Roger McGough's 80th Birthday on 9th November 2017 Litrasaurus is sharing one of our favourite poems of his. A millionbillionwillion miles from home Waiting for the bell to go. (To go where?) Why are they all so big, other children? So noisy? So much at home they Must have been born in uniform Lived all their lives in playgrounds Spent the years inventing games That don't let me in. Games That are rough, that swallow you up. And the railings. All around, the railings. Are they to keep out wolves and monsters? Things that carry off and eat children? Things you don't take sweets from? Perhaps they're to stop us getting out Running away from the les...

Flora and the Hedgehog - no more extinction allowed
It was one of those gentle days in June when the wind was kind and headed off the intense heat of the beautiful sunshine. A day when all seemed well in the arms of mother Nature. Flora was in her garden just amazed at the glory that her garden endowed. Butterflies and bees just feasting on the pollen from all the wonderful flowers busily collecting and taking home to make honey. The doves were coo-ing and the sound was so reminiscent of all the summers she had enjoyed in the past. They had just brought her a letter from home where her parents had said that they anticipated that the struggles in her home-land might soon be over and that they hoped that it would be soon that it would be sa...

Gone missing
My name is James. When I was six, I lived in a large, rambling, old, falling down house in Derbyshire Our house was home to spiders, hedgehogs, bats and mice. Lots of mice! Mum kept a large broom with which to shoo them away out of the house. I remember the day that Sam went missing, Dad sat by the telephone his head in his hands, Mum was crying, She had been really nice that day. At lunch I was allowed hot chocolate pudding AND ice cream. The day dragged slowly along. “Time for bed James” I did not make my usual protestations. Snuggled in bed, Mum bent down to kiss me good-night when we heard a scritching, scratching sound. Mum sighed and went downstairs to fetch the broom. The sou...

Hornet Moth - a story of an old aeroplane for young children
I am a small biplane aircraft and this is my story. I think I can already hear you saying, “Just a minute, aeroplanes can’t talk or write”. That is quite true but over the years we old wooden aeroplanes, like old ships and houses seem to absorb into their structure some part of the atmosphere in which they have existed. Every now and then, if we are lucky, we encounter a human who is sympathetic to the atmosphere around us and can attempt to tell our story as we might do if we could. I am now in a museum and a year or so ago it was visited by an old man who flew me back in those days when I still smelt of aircraft paint and hot oil and petrol. He recognised me at once and I remembered hi...

Iceland Air
Islands of cloud shadow on the sea Criss cross con trials above the blue The music plays, and I ease back and sigh Tired and grey, but on a natural high In between space I am free Like the clouds between the sea and sky.

IF
If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies, Or being hated, don’t give way to hating, And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise: If you can dream—and not make dreams your master; If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim; If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two impostors just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken Twisted by knaves ...

IMAGINE
Imagine a world for no and everyone Where we all are here to be as one and to save the world Where we have no differences at heart despite the differences at hand and our nations can all relate with one happy and unified mind Imagine a place like home that is not your or my own Where we could shelter as many people it could condone a home with fights and get back togethers Where nothing is left in our hearts to keep that might lead to someone’s death at night Imagine a dreamland, not this wander-land we think is a wonderland Where the only thing we seek is profit over feelings Money over family and corruption over redemption But such a land that is rich in the manna we have...

Jemima and the Pirates
Jemima was a young girl who could always be found in the garden. She loved nothing more than digging holes in the earth and planting seeds which would grow into delicious fruits and vegetables. But Jemima had a secret which she’d never told anyone in the whole world. At the bottom of her garden was an old rickety potting shed. Every once in a while, when her parents weren’t looking, she would creep down to the end of the garden and open the creaky old door. Inside was a giant potato sack which she climbed into and all of a sudden, she disappeared. Just like that! Jemima landed with a thump on something hard and grainy. She could smell the sea and the ground beneath her was s...

Kiki The Spider's New Web
It was a clear but dewy morning in the big back garden and Reg the snail had woken up early to sing to all his favourite flowers. He munched down a gnat au chocolat for his breakfast and eased out of his shell. Reg peered across the garden at the golden forsythia by the high wooden fence, which he had always liked - and couldn't believe what he saw. He rubbed his eyes against each other (which snails can do) and ran towards the flowery bush as fast as he could, which wasn't very fast at all (snails can't run - only slide) but he got there after a few minutes. Reg inspected closely what he had seen: from the golden forsythia to next door's high wooden fence was a big spider's web. T...

Knight of the Golden Goose [UNFINISHED ...]
Litrasaurus has a challenge, and he needs your help ! Dodo found this long, lost story, written by somebody called John R, which he then sent to Litrasaurus hoping to save it from extinction. The only thing is that the story is unfinished. Neither Dodo nor Litrasaurus know who John R was (you never know he might even have been a king, because Kings and Queens always write their name with an ‘R’ after it); what they do know is that John’s wish was that the story should have a happy ending. Litrasaurus has thought long and hard about how to fulfil Johns’ wishes, before he realised, of course, he could ask YOU to work on the story and give it a happy ending ! Once upon a t...

Lonely Lily
Once upon a time there was a secret house, it was in an unusual place, it was deep in a magical mountain. In this house lived a lonely fairy she had no friends because she lived in such a far away place, so nobody knew she was there. Her house was moved there by a witch, who was jealous of the fairy, who was good and kind and friendly, and everybody liked her, so here she was, stuck in the mountain. Her name was Lily. One day she had an idea, ” I know,” she said” I have furniture, and objects in my house, I’ll wave my wand and make them able to talk to me, then I won’t be so lonely!” For a while she was happy playing and talking to the cups, saucers, chairs , toys and everything e...

Malamud
Malamud was a Persian. His long black hair was sleekly brushed, his deep copper eyes gleamed brightly, he was in the peak of condition. Elegant, disdainful, his authority was unquestioned, his privilege extended to all quarters of the house. Nothing was too good for Malamud. He dined on the finest foods, he did as he pleased and nothing was allowed to disturb him. Nothing that is except Timothy. Malamud lived with Mrs Jonah Sandford at her Kensington address; an honour which during the school holidays he was forced to share with Timothy, her son. It was generally considered odd that Mrs Sanford should have retained her husband’s name after he had passed away since his contributio...

NANNI Just Imagine !
It was “Me” time on the sofa. Although, to be fair, Chloe and Jack didn’t interrupt him like they used to; those tablets were just the best investment, even their school was using them now. Mind you one could hardly get a response out of the kids, not even at meal times. “Whatever” was about the best he could hope for nowadays. The iPhone slipped gently from Mike’s grasp the light fading face down against the smooth leather of their new DFS sofa. With a start he reached down to find it. This wretched sofa! Why did he buy it? I mean they didn’t even really need it, the old one had been his parents’, familiar and homely, full of childhood memories, but then there was the offer...

Pig Chef
Butter-yellow sun shone down on the baking hay of Chestnut Farm. Crackles, a flesh-pink pig, spent his time in a jagged, cosy, muddy pen. Opposite, dwelled Chick Pea; a feathered, comical hen with a fantastically razor-sharp beak. To her left was Gallon, an extremely proud black and white cow whose milk had a taste like gold. Farmer Beefy was a middle aged man, of middling height and middling weight, who always slept in the middle of his bed. One night, after he had thrown his animals their nightly food, Crackles, Chick Pea and Gallon held an important gathering. “ We’re all getting bored stiff of this food!” clucked Chick Pea “I’ve had enough of these revolting meals!” mooed Gal...

Pilgrimage
Hello I am Kit the Knight and I am a Christian. I'm going to the Canterbury Cathedral to pray. I've been in many battles and I've won every one. I am very strong, very brave and I'm extremely kind as well as moral. I wear shiny armour and a gigantic metal helmet with a ruby red feather on the top. I am very funny and I make everyone laugh. Everyone respects me because I help everyone. I've got a huge horse named Joey. I said to nobody "I wish I had someone to come with me". A couple of minutes later I saw Ted. Ted said to me "What are you doing Kit?" I explained that I was going on a pilgrimage and Ted said to me "Can I come? I've always wanted to go on a pilgrimage but I've never h...

Pin Cushion
In a big house was a little pink bedroom and in that bedroom there was a pink bed, under the pink bed was a pink box where some toys and a small pin lived. The toys were alive and could all talk to one another. When it was very quiet and no children or grown-ups were near they would come out to play. They did not get played with anymore as they were old and used and the children had out grown them. One morning the dollies and teddies decided to climb up on one another to reach the bed. “Can I climb on too please?” Asked the pin. “Oh no!” said one of the dollies “you can’t come you aren’t a proper toy, you are sharp and may hurt us.” The little pin was very sad and made her own w...
