Our Aim

Using words Litrasaurus aims to inspire imagination and creativity in the young at heart, irrespective of age or capability or situation, by offering access to children’s literature, both contemporary and classic, as well as providing a platform to encourage and enable communication skills.

Litrasaurus is not a commercial enterprise; it is a privately funded charitable endeavour. Who knows where it will lead …

Principles

We offer this website as a resource for children, parents, teachers and anyone else involved or interested in encouraging children’s reading and writing skills as well as stimulating their imagination.

If you submit a story, which we encourage everyone to do, it must be your own story, written by you, and all your own work with nothing copied from any other source – meaning that it is your copyright. We will respect your copyright as author of that story, however in submitting your story you are, clearly, giving us some limited, non-exclusive, rights to “publish” it. All stories will first be checked and then “published” on the Litrasaurus website for others to read and enjoy.

We are aware that most visitors will be children so we will take particular care to ensure all content is appropriate, as well as protect everyone’s privacy. All content will be moderated and we do not allow any comments, or interaction between visitors on the site.

Below are all the detailed Terms & Conditions that apply these principles. You, or your parent or guardian, should read them carefully as by using the site, and particularly submitting a story, you are explicitly agreeing to them.

About These Terms & Conditions

If you browse and use this website, you are agreeing to comply with, and be bound by, these Terms & Conditions, including our Privacy Policy, which form an agreement between us.

If you disagree with any part of these Terms & Conditions, please do not use our website.

We may change these Terms & Conditions from time to time by updating this page – we do not issue any notifications about this. You should thus check this page regularly to ensure that you are happy with any changes. These particular Terms & Conditions are effective from 14th February 2017.

This agreement, and any dispute arising out of your use of the website, or any other aspect of Litrasaurus, are, and shall be, exclusively governed by the laws and courts of England and Wales.

General Terms

Litrasaurus provides access to a range of material, including stories and information, as well as allowing users to submit material which may be published or distributed electronically (“Services”).

The contents of the pages of the website are for your general information and personal, non-commercial, use only.

The Services are provided on an ‘as is’ and ‘as available’ basis. We cannot take responsibility for the website being unavailable due to technical problems beyond our control. Furthermore, any aspect of Litrasaurus, including the website and the Services, is subject to change or suspension without notice.

We do not offer any warranty, or guarantee, as to the accuracy, timeliness, performance, completeness or suitability of the content on the website, or any other element of the Services, for any particular purpose. You acknowledge that the website and Services may contain inaccuracies, or errors, and we expressly exclude liability for any such inaccuracies, or errors, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Your use of the website, including any content, is entirely at your own risk, for which we shall not be liable. It shall be your own responsibility to ensure that anything available through the website and the Services meets your requirements.

From time to time, the website may also include links to other websites. These links are provided for your convenience. They do not signify that we endorse the other website(s). We have no responsibility for the content or actions of those linked website(s).

Registration

You do not need to register.  You can browse the website, or read the stories, or even submit material, without registering. However to take full advantage of all aspects of the Services you do, though, need to register.

You may choose any name you like as your username. Your username will be what we publish as the author of any stories that you submit to us. We strongly recommend that you do not use your real name as your username – think of your username as a “pen name” (many, many writers of books and stories throughout time have, in fact, used a “pen name” rather than their own real name).

Children under the age of 13 may not create user accounts; they must be created for them by a parent or guardian. Children over 13, but under 18, may create their own accounts but must seek the permission of a parent or guardian before doing so. In any case where a user is under 18 it is the parent or guardian that is agreeing to these Terms & Conditions on their behalf.

You are responsible for maintaining the secrecy of your password and for all activities that occur under your account. If anything you submit to us is offensive or breaches any copyright, or if you provide inaccurate, untrue or offensive registration information, we have the right to suspend or terminate your account without notice.

Submitting Material

When you submit material to us, by whatever means, we are free to use it on the website and as part of the Services. By submitting a story, or any other material, to us you are granting us a free-of-charge, non-exclusive, global right to publish it via the Litrasaurus website.

As part of our marketing and PR (both online and offline) we will occasionally want to refer to, or use an extract from, one or more stories that have been submitted. Unless you advise us in writing to the contrary you will be deemed to have granted us permission to use anything that you have submitted for that purpose should we so wish.

In future we may choose to publish material in other, potentially tangible, forms (e.g. a compendium of stories). Were we to do so, we will ask explicit permission of the people who have submitted that material for it to be included, and, furthermore, were it to be a commercial undertaking we would come to reasonable and appropriate arrangements to share any commercial benefit that would be due to an author in such circumstances (it is your responsibility to keep your contact details up to date which you can do via your settings on the website).

Anyone may at any time request that we remove material that they have previously submitted. Such requests should be made in writing – we will comply as quickly as reasonably possible. We will continue to have the right to keep, though not to publish, the material (this is, for instance, because we may need it for internal record-keeping, or because a copy is still held in an archive or backup).

We will not return anything submitted by post, so if you are sending us material by post please do ensure that you yourself have kept a copy.

You agree that all material that is submitted to us, in whatever form, is the sole responsibility of the person who submitted it. This means that you are entirely responsible, and liable, for anything and everything that you upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise send us.

When you are submitting a story to us it must be your own work. You must have the rights to submit that work to us, and it must not infringe anybody else’s copyright or other proprietary rights.

Anything you submit to us must not contain (i) any confidential information (ii) any personal information about another person without that person’s explicit permission (iii) anything which is libellous, defamatory, obscene, indecent, offensive, or in any way unlawful.

We will, to the best of our ability, take reasonable steps to moderate all content submitted to us in order to ensure that it is appropriate to an audience of children and is not in any way offensive.

If you find any material on the website inappropriate or offensive please advise us immediately in writing and, where such material proves to be either inappropriate and/or offensive, we will remove it as quickly as reasonably possible. We cannot be held liable for the inappropriateness or any offence caused by material submitted to us, any such liability rests with the person who submitted the material.

We cannot monitor or check the copyright of material submitted to us. If you find any material on the website that you believe is in breach of copyright please advise us immediately in writing and where such material proves to be in breach of copyright we will remove it as quickly as reasonably possible. We cannot be held liable for any breach of copyright with regard to material submitted to us, any such liability rests with the person who submitted the material, unless, of course, we have published it with explicit prior knowledge that it would be in breach of copyright.

To the fullest extent permitted by law we will not be liable to you, and/or any other person, for any damages either direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential or exemplary resulting from, or in connection with, your use, or inability to use, the Services or in relation to any material submitted to us, or any other matter relating to the Services, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages and even in the event of fault, tort or liability.

Entire Agreement

These Terms & Conditions constitute the entire understanding between you and us with respect to the subject matter of these Terms & Conditions and supersede all prior agreements between us.

Severability

If any part or parts of these Terms & Conditions are held to be legally invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue to apply with the offending part or parts removed.

Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy sets out how we will treat your personal information.  We may change this policy from time to time by updating this page – we do not issue any notifications about this. You should thus check this page regularly to ensure that you are happy with any changes.  This current policy statement is effective from 14th February 2017.

We are committed to safeguarding the privacy and safety of our website visitors.  We are particularly aware that the majority of visitors will be children and as such will be especially careful in terms of safeguarding privacy as well as ensuring the content of the site including any contributions that we publish are appropriate to this audience.

The only information that may be visible is your username.  You are free to choose whatever username you like so long as it is not already in use or inappropriate.  We strongly recommend that users do not use their real names (e.g. first name and last name together) or select a username that can lead to them being specifically identified.  The only exceptions to that are Guest Authors who will be individuals, usually professional authors or celebrities, that are contributing Guest Stories to support Litrasaurus and have thus agreed to be identified.

Personal information is information that you provide to us which personally identifies you (such as your name or email address, or other data which can be reasonably linked to you by us, or others). We use ‘personal data’ and ‘personal information’ interchangeably in this Privacy Policy.

We want you to be able to take part fully in our website, and any other Litrasaurus activities whilst ensuring that, where we collect personal information about you, we do so in a way that does not infringe your right to privacy.

What personal information do we collect?

We may collect, store and use the following kinds of personal data:

  • Information that you provide to us for the purposes of registering with Litrasaurus and submitting stories
    • We require the absolute minimum information from you in order to register you on the site (name and email address)
  • Information that you may provide to us for the purpose of subscribing to any website services, email notifications and/or newsletters
    • For instance contact details and preferences
  • Information that you provide to us when you enter competitions
    • This will only be used to let you know if you have won
    • If you have won we may ask you to provide us additional information, such as your address, in order for us to send out any prize(s)
    • If you do win a competition we will not communicate your personal details to anyone else, such as other users of our website or the public; we will simply say which story won the prize (that does of course identify your username).

Information that you provide to us will not be accessed by any third party other than employees or contractors working directly for us who will be appropriately bound by our agreements with them.

How do we use cookies?

A cookie is a small file which, with your permission, is placed on your computer’s hard drive. The cookie helps and allows websites to respond to you as an individual by tailoring web applications to your needs, likes and dislikes.  It does so by gathering and remembering information about your choices and preferences.

We use cookies to keep track of you whilst you navigate the website and to assist us with the future development of our website.

Cookies do not identify you personally, just the presence of your browser.  Session cookies will be deleted from your computer when you close your browser.

Most browsers allow you to refuse to accept cookies.  This may, however, have a negative impact upon the usability of many websites, including, potentially, this one.

Disclosures

Any disclosure will only be made to the extent that we are required to do so by law.

Except as provided in this Privacy Policy, we will not provide your information to third parties.

Information that we collect may be stored and processed in, and transferred between, any of the countries in which we operate in order to enable us to use the information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), information which you provide may be transferred to or held in countries including the United States (US) which do not have data protection laws equivalent to those in force in the EEA.  This will only be by virtue of us subscribing to services from and in the UK, such as website hosting, which end up being fulfilled by our suppliers using resources outside the EAA.

In addition, information that you submit for publication on the website will be published on the internet and may be available, via the internet, around the world.

You expressly agree to such transfers of personal and other information.

Security of your personal data

We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure.

We will take reasonable technical and organisational precautions to prevent the loss, misuse or alteration of your personal information.  We use industry standard software and hosting providers meaning your data is stored on secure (password- and firewall- protected) servers.

Of course, data transmission over the internet is inherently insecure, and we cannot guarantee the security of data sent over the internet.

You are responsible for keeping your password and user details confidential. We will not ask you for your password.

Your rights

You may instruct us to provide you with any personal information we hold about you.  Provision of such information is subject to current UK data protection legislation and may be subject to a fee.

We have submitted our registration under the Data Protection Act to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office.

Third party websites

Our website contains a variety of links to other websites.  We are not responsible for the privacy policies or practices of third party websites.  We will, though, not transfer any of your personal data to any such site.  You should exercise caution and look at the privacy policy of any website you visit.

Updating information

If you believe that any information we are holding on you is incorrect or incomplete or out of date, please write to or email us as soon as possible. We will promptly correct any information found to be incorrect.
