Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K. Jerome

A story of a boating holiday trip on the river Thames going from Kingston to Oxford. The narrator is travelling with friends Harris and George plus a dog called Montmorency. It provides a wonderful description of the historic places through which they travel including Hampton Court and the site of the Magna Carta to name but a few. There are some very funny episodes with unreliable weather forecasts, tow ropes and all sorts of other problems, together with some beautifully written prose. It also gives an insight into nineteenth century life.
