Set during the second world war, Carrie and her younger brother are evacuated from London to Wales where they were placed with a rather strict Mr. Evans and his timid sister. Their friend Albert was luckier and placed with Hepzibah Green who revelled in telling wonderful stories and the strange Mister Johnny who had a language all of his own! They loved to visit Albert there- until one day Carrie does a terrible thing!
