Libraries

Most libraries are run by local councils and are generally free to use.  Not only can you borrow books to take home, inside libraries there often places where you can sit quietly and read. They also may have computers you can use and many offer free wi-fi.

Some country areas, where there is not a library nearby, even have mobile libraries that visit on certain days and times – these vans are filled with shelves of books.

If you want to find a library near you you can do so by clicking on this link www.gov.uk/local-library-services which takes you to a site where, if you put in your postcode it will tell you where your nearest library is in England  – there is even a section for mobile libraries too. For Wales & Scotland sometimes it cannot tell you about your local library, but it will tell you which is the council that runs libraries in your area and gives you a link to their site where you can find out more.

If you want a particular book and it is not in your local library, they will probably be able to order it from another branch for you, but sometimes there may be a small charge for this.
