A Poem for Summer
In the Summer Holidays, No wind rustles in the trees, I have the best adventures, Running away from bees, In the Summer Holidays, There is sand between my toes On those days I visit the beach, In the Summer Holidays, Every so often a butterfly , Lands on my nose!!!!!!

Old Papa Saves the Balls
Old Papa goes golfing almost every day He gets in his cart and heads on his way He takes out a ball that’s shiny and round And places it gently on a tee in the ground Taking his club from the back of his bag He plants his feet firmly with a zig and a zag Swinging his club and following through The ball is now soaring and knows what to do… It lands on the greens and not in the pond, Where many balls land, Of which they’re not fond A ball that is lost is so lonely and sad Old Papa will find them and soon they’ll be glad. Each night after supper when Old Papa’s ate, He heads to the pond before it gets late He tromps in the...

The Tiger
I was sitting in my room when I heard a growl from outside my window. I stopped at the noise and I got up and walked slowly towards the window and looked out. Nothing was there so I went back to my desk and went back to doing my homework. I just wondered if that noise was familiar with me, that growl, that sneakily going away, could it possible be my favourite animal, The Tiger? I ran to my mum immediately to tell her that I had heard a growl outside my window and it could possibly be a Tiger. Unfortunately, my Mum didn't listen and told me to get back to my homework. I sighed and went away to finish my arithmatic. Later that night when I was just about to go to sleep I heard the growl ...

The Art of Being Three
I like being me and I like being three Not two, not four, just me being me I really like dirt and any dirt will do Dirt on me dirt on them and even dirt on you I like Popsicle sticks and Popsicles too Purple on grapes and blueberries blue. I eat with my fingers and drum with my spoon And dream of the cow that jumps over the moon Why is the way my sentence begins “Do monkeys eat donuts, do mermaids have fins?' “Why must I nap? I'm really too old!” “Why do you say, "Do as you're told." “Why can't I run out into the street? Haven’t you noticed I'm wearing two feet? “Do dragons breathe fire, do skunks really smell? “If you haven't held one, how...

The Search for the Fruit of Life
Samuel was in his room when he found an old book. “Hey, Paulin, Kamarou, come check this out!” “Yeah?” called Kamarou. “It’s an old book – and come see what’s inside!” Sam called back. They came along and marvelled at the book. They opened it slowly, carefully, and saw the small black writing. Paulin read aloud: “Near Mont Sokbaro is a treasure, the Fruit of Life – “ “Woah… stop! Did it say, ‘treasure’?” interrupted Samuel. “Yes,” answered Paulin. “We’re explorers and treasure hunters, right?” Kamarou asked. The three men nodded in agreement. Samuel looked out of the window of his small wooden hut in the ancient village of Ketou, with his two oldest friends side by side and said ...

JHONTSY'S MATTED HAIR
In a remote village of India there lived a little girl, whose name was Jhontsy. She was a beautiful and witty girl but she hated combing her hair. Therefore her hair were often rough and matted. Her village was near a forest. Her mother used to go to the forest to bring some dry wood sticks, which she burnt outside her house to keep away wild animals and fight the cold weather. One day Jhontsy accompanied her mother to the forest. She followed her mother care fully but suddenly there appeared a leopard in front of them. Jhontsy got afraid and started running away. Why running she passed under a thorny berry tree, Unfortunately her matted hair got caught in a loosly hanging thorny branch...

An Old Seaman's Song
Life is a river and man is the boat That over its surface is destined to float And joy is the cargo so easily stored That he is a fool that takes trouble on board We all have our taste of the ups and the downs As fortune dispenses her smiles and her frowns O, may we not hope of its frowning today That tomorrow she'll lend us the light of her ray I would not that man without caution should steer Through the quick-sands , the rocks that encircle us here Be honour his compass, the magnet his breast Let him stand to truth's cause to fate leave the rest There is plenty of sunshine, then why choose the shade? Half of the trouble that comes o'er us our own fears have made Then go...

Pig Chef
Butter-yellow sun shone down on the baking hay of Chestnut Farm. Crackles, a flesh-pink pig, spent his time in a jagged, cosy, muddy pen. Opposite, dwelled Chick Pea; a feathered, comical hen with a fantastically razor-sharp beak. To her left was Gallon, an extremely proud black and white cow whose milk had a taste like gold. Farmer Beefy was a middle aged man, of middling height and middling weight, who always slept in the middle of his bed. One night, after he had thrown his animals their nightly food, Crackles, Chick Pea and Gallon held an important gathering. “ We’re all getting bored stiff of this food!” clucked Chick Pea “I’ve had enough of these revolting meals!” mooed Gal...

Summer Evening
The sandy cat by the Farmer’s chair Mews at his knee for dainty fare; Old Rover in his moss-greened house Mumbles a bone, and barks at a mouse. In the dewy fields the cattle lie Chewing the cud ‘neath a fading sky; Dobbin at manger pulls his hay: Gone is another summer’s day.

The Pony and The Crystal
Once upon a time there was a crystal that everybody wanted but could not find. Once a pony named Millie was trotting by when it found the crystal, she bit it and took it home to her owner. The owner was bursting with delight - she had found the crystal. The crystal was kept on the ponies collar and if anyone tried to steal the crystal they would end up in their grave. One day a robber stabbed the pony in the back and stole the crystal, the pony died straight after. Ever since the pony died if anyone tried to take something from the owners house they would hear the horse's scream when the robber stabbed her and then they would end up in the same place as where the robber stabbed her. The e...

Radiant
The radiant sun stretched down its golden fingers and crept beneath my curtain, cascading onto my carpet. As the sun touched my soft, pale forehead I leaned out of bed. It was almost calling me to stand in its' light and absorb its saffron glory. I was reluctant to leave the suns shimmering power when my mum called "Get ready! We're going to the park!" This got me moving, in a few short seconds I had scrambled downstairs, to wait for my mum. As I stepped out of the glossy black door it was like stepping into a canvas splashed with cobalt, gilt yellow, and vibrant green and lots of other luxurious colours. When I arrived with my mum I couldn't resist the temptation to just stand a...

Knight of the Golden Goose [UNFINISHED ...]
Litrasaurus has a challenge, and he needs your help ! Dodo found this long, lost story, written by somebody called John R, which he then sent to Litrasaurus hoping to save it from extinction. The only thing is that the story is unfinished. Neither Dodo nor Litrasaurus know who John R was (you never know he might even have been a king, because Kings and Queens always write their name with an ‘R’ after it); what they do know is that John’s wish was that the story should have a happy ending. Litrasaurus has thought long and hard about how to fulfil Johns’ wishes, before he realised, of course, he could ask YOU to work on the story and give it a happy ending ! Once upon a t...

Boo
Once upon a time there lived a panda called Boo. Boo didn't like the city. In fact he didn't like to be anywhere near cities. Boo had a very big tummy which he used to play-fight with the squirrels nearby. They were always careful when they play-fought even though sometimes Boo thought that was too boring. One day the squirrels tried to tell Boo to stop play-fighting and so that is when they saw the biggest tree in the forest and it looked like a ready-made home. They all stared at the tree because it was so beautiful and original. They all wanted to live there and so there was a race to see who would get to the tree first. They drew. One of the squirrels abruptly had an idea. The i...

Bed In Summer
In winter I get up at night And dress by yellow candle-light. In summer, quite the other way, I have to go to bed by day. I have to go to bed and see The birds still hopping on the tree, Or hear the grown-up people's feet Still going past me in the street. And does it not seem hard to you, When all the sky is clear and blue, And I should like so much to play, To have to go to bed by day?

A Second Christmas ?
You might at first think that the idea of celebrating Christmas twice is crazy, though the more thought I give it, the more I can see its many merits. We are all so busy that twelve months can flash by in the blink of an eye and this is one reason why each six months is a necessity. Imagine the delight painted on a child's face when they hear the announcement that there was going to be another Christmas! This could raise concerns about Santa's workload. However we could employ an army of helpers, just think of all the work it should create for the unemployed. Increased spending on gifts can only be good for the economy as retail profits soar- from my point of view this is a "win-win" s...

Viper
Once upon a time in a town plentiful with tomatoes lived a young snake called Viper. She was born in the company of an evil brother called Danger. He had laser eyes and X-Ray specs so that he could steal gold from anywhere. One day Viper met a familiar looking snake and they had a fight. Viper slithered so fast around Danger that he couldn't see her and he got dizzy. Then Danger used his laser eyes but Viper was too lively. Danger began to use his X-Ray specs to see inside her. He realised she was too quick for him so he went home and she went home. They realised who they both were and Viper tried to get Danger away from her Dad. Her Dad's reaction was to get say "you are brother and sist...

Birthday Celebration
Once each year for my birthday celebration, I conjure up a taste sensation, A cake with tubs of frothy cream, That is the confection of my dream. After a while I decided to bake, A deliciously succulent red velvet cake, From the oven a heaven aroma drifts, My taste buds tingle and my heart lifts. The divine cake looked all golden brown, And I smothered on an icing crown, As I showered sprinkle here and there, I iced my name with special care. The sponge of the cake looked moist and luscious, The cake stood creamy and exquisite and luxurious The sponge so sweet and enticing, Then looks royal with its mantle of icing. I scatter the many colour...

The Underwater City
My dear reader, I must tell you this true story of what happened to me a long, long time ago when I was ten years old in Romania, a country far, far away in Eastern Europe. Our art teacher came in one day and announced to the class that a nation-wide competition was being launched for children to create an original design for the City of the Future "Year 2000". I should tell you that this was the very first time I realised that I was free to imagine whatever I wished to see be built in the future! It was a turning point for me to discover that I could dream out anything at all! It was exciting, my dear friend, to feel 'free'...and it took me some time to calm down before get...

Dear Wolf
Dear Wolf, You ought to be ashamed of yourself and your disgraceful behaviour. You are nothing but a big bad bully! Your mother would be ashamed of you! We little pigs are just trying to find a cosy home to live in and you cruelly placed obstacles along every inch of our path. As one of God's fine creatures yourself, you should know better! There are many crimes of which you are guilty: damaging public property, farmyard robbing and domination of those most vulnerable. How would you like it if a big bad pig waddled to your house one day and destroyed it? Many people have been terrified by you. Can we just point out that you have destroyed two of our little friends, the boy who cried...

IF
If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies, Or being hated, don’t give way to hating, And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise: If you can dream—and not make dreams your master; If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim; If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two impostors just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken Twisted by knaves ...

Bee Ditty
Amongst the flowers you'll see me A little worker bee - tee-hee Buzzing, buzzing merrily Working hard but fancy-free Drinking the nectar mmm! yummy Until it fills my special tummy Designed to help me make the honey Golden in colour and often runny We work for our Queen Who is seldom seen I tell her about where I have been And describe the scene The wonderful flowers In all the bowers Blue Cornflowers And sunflowers The hive is our home It has no dome It is filled with honey-comb But I love to roam

Kiki The Spider's New Web
It was a clear but dewy morning in the big back garden and Reg the snail had woken up early to sing to all his favourite flowers. He munched down a gnat au chocolat for his breakfast and eased out of his shell. Reg peered across the garden at the golden forsythia by the high wooden fence, which he had always liked - and couldn't believe what he saw. He rubbed his eyes against each other (which snails can do) and ran towards the flowery bush as fast as he could, which wasn't very fast at all (snails can't run - only slide) but he got there after a few minutes. Reg inspected closely what he had seen: from the golden forsythia to next door's high wooden fence was a big spider's web. T...

Theodore
"Do you want to see the television news?" Theodore’s wife called up to him. Theodore glanced at his watch from habit. He already knew what the time was. "Not tonight," he called back and turned again to his desk and the contemplation of theories which he could not take into the classroom with him for the benefit of his pupils. "I'll bring your coffee up in a few minutes then," "Yes, lovely." Theodore was blessed with a happy domestic life. He loved his wife, she loved him, they both loved their son and none of them had any reason to be depressed or angry. Theodore returned with interest to The Scientific American and an article on the possibilities of communication between Ear...

Shona
When Shona lost her phone she thought that was the Worst. But there was something worse than the Worst. Because, even though she had no headphones, Shona started to hear music. Everywhere. All the time. Her entire life had somehow got itself a soundtrack. It started on the bus. She tried to share her pain with Ellie, “No tunes, no facebook, no numbers - what am I supposed to DO?” “Exactly,” said Ellie without looking up from facebook. Then the shark-attack music from Jaws came pounding through the bus. Harsh Nicole had just got on and was stomping down the walkway exactly in time to the music. At first Shona thought the bus had some stereo system of its own. It looked so funny that Sho...

Song On A May Morning
Now the bright morning-star, Day's harbinger, Comes dancing from the East, and leads with her The flowery May, who from her green lap throws The yellow cowslip and the pale primrose. Hail, bounteous May, that dost inspire Mirth, and youth, and warm desire! Woods and groves are of thy dressing; Hill and dale doth boast thy blessing. Thus we salute thee with our early song, And welcome thee, and wish thee long.

The perfect dream
You are going to bed after a tiring day , you dream. You are walking on the beach. It is nearly deserted but you can't see why.It is everything you could want in a seaside with its silky , smooth sand and shells. You paddle for a while in the seas eerie calm it's depths seeming to glow every hue of blue you've ever seen and many more besides. Despite all the colours you find that you can see to the bottom covered in shells that have never been seen before. You're sure of this because , if ever found they would be on the cover of every newspaper. They look to be made of glass and flower petals, with to much detail to be made by human hands. You pick one up and put it in your pocket to study la...

NANNI Just Imagine !
It was “Me” time on the sofa. Although, to be fair, Chloe and Jack didn’t interrupt him like they used to; those tablets were just the best investment, even their school was using them now. Mind you one could hardly get a response out of the kids, not even at meal times. “Whatever” was about the best he could hope for nowadays. The iPhone slipped gently from Mike’s grasp the light fading face down against the smooth leather of their new DFS sofa. With a start he reached down to find it. This wretched sofa! Why did he buy it? I mean they didn’t even really need it, the old one had been his parents’, familiar and homely, full of childhood memories, but then there was the offer...
